Eek. I’ve been rather rubbish at keeping this up to date. Too much work and too much play! It’s nearly the middle of March, so there’s rather a lot to report on, 2011 has treated me well already.

The perks of my job usually include free stationery and the occasional night out with the Barclaycard clients. Last month it actually got a bit glamorous when I was invited down to the Chalet Girl world premiere, thanks to the lovely folk at Clean & Clear. It’s got Ed Westwick in it, so I could hardly say no. Unfortunately the night didn’t end with him dragging me into a limo and inviting me back to his hotel room, but I did get to stand near him and then have my photo taken with the hottie himself (I’m ever professional).

He’s a lot shorted in real life than I imagined, though I date a rather tiny man, so that’s not a problem. He’d definitely mastered the pouty sex bomb look, every photo had the same expression, I’m not sure he knows how to smile.

Chalet Girl was a cute film, it’s about a young girl from the wrong side of town who blags a job at a chalet. She falls in love with the chalet owner (Ed W) but is out of his league. She wins the pro snowboarding competition, gets a lot of money and then he likes her. OK, I’ve over simplified it a bit, but that’s basically the jist of it. Loads of people came out the cinema saying they wanted to go skiing again, after my exploits last time I certainly wasn’t one of those people. I’ll spare the ski instructors another grumpy sweary uncoordinated pupil.

Anyway, here’s a nice, out of focus picture of the Clean & Clear clients, me and Ed Westwick. Oh yes.

Twisted Elegance

We had our Dare Christas party last week, I think I’m still recovering! It was such a good evening, probably the best yet. With a Twisted Elegance theme we all came dressed up in Victoria Freak Show get ups, I rented a wonderful dress that I definitely don’t want to give back tomorrow. I might cry when I do.

Dare hired out a miraculous photo booth that made everyone look beautiful, I want one at home. Lil Luke & I took a super cute load of photos. Love love love the two on the right. My boyfriend is fit.

I think Popjustice might be my blog BFF. It’s probably the one site I check every day (let’s forget that brief period when I’d check Perez about 10 times a day, ok? They were dark times and I’ve gotten over it.). It’s a little sanctuary, a place where people don’t bitch about pop music for the sake of it. It’s a place where I don’t have to argue why it’s ok not to write your own songs, where miming isn’t the worst thing in the world and where you can say that a song reminds you of kelly Clarkson and mean it in a good way.

Their song of the day today is by SoundGirl and it’s brilliant. That lead singer is bbbeeeaaauuutttiiiffffuuulll.

Enter The Void

I finally managed to see Enter The Void last week, after missing the first few screenings that Curzon did. I’m not sure I chose the best day to see it, it’s very much a visual assualt and I was massively hungover.

Enter The Void is Gasper Noe’s lastest film, after last year’s Irreversible. It’s supposed to be a “pscyhedelic melodrama”, telling the story of a junkie in Tokyo. Of course, Tokyo looks fucking mad enough, but Noe has made the whole thing into one big trip. Tonnes of neon strobes, everything is either shot from the first person or slightly above their heads and lots of horrific noises. It’s not a fun film. We had to endure five minutes of white strobing every half hour or so, lots of WinAmp style 3D shapes while people got high and even sex from the vagina’s point of view (think giant jap’s eye continually jabbing at the screen). The close up on the aborted foetus was a real low.

Technically, it’s incredible. I’ve no idea how they did half the shots, and I certainly admire his boldness with the subject areas but after an hour I was ready to leave, hoping that every black screen would be the end. It loses it’s narrative strength after that first hour, turning into something that was just annoying. The film clocks in at a mighty two and half hours, for something that is so brutal it’s a big ask of people to endure it.

Doctor Who Live

Because I’m really bloody cool I went to see Doctor Who Live on Friday. Yeah, ok, maybe it’s not very cool but it was INCREDIBLE. It’s basically a panto version of Doctor Who, if you don’t take it any more seriously than that you can properly enjoy it. Obviously they can’t have the real Doctor acting every night so they’ve constructed this evil circus master who has captured loads of famous Doctor Who aliens and we’re all the audience in his travelling freak show. Each alien gets wheeled out on stage in turn and we all gasp and scream as they run through the audience.

Of course, not everything goes to plan and the Doctor has to get involved (via some v dodgy pre-recorded clips that they screen); there is a bigger evil here, someone is letting the aliens out of their cages. Who could it be? Yes! The Daleks! With lots of pyrotechnics and cheap props the Daleks are defeated.

It’s a fun show, with a live orchestra and choir. I think they’ve used all the original outfits, so all the creatures look just like the do on the show. The Ood were a definite highlight.

Actually, I lie. The highlight was sitting about five seats away from Matt Smith!!! I’d blagged amazing seats from work, we were right above the stage with shit loads of celebs. Even Donna was there! Alas, no David Tennant. Though that might be a good thing, as I probably would have been ejected from the arena after too much dry humping.

When the hell will I ever be rich? This wonderful duck jumper from Topshop is just £65 and I still can’t bloody afford it. Maybe I should buy it anyway and just wait for the bankruptcy letter. At least I’d look cute and ducky when the letter arrives. Slightly put off that it’s mostly synthetic, I wonder if I can take advantage of Luke’s nan’s good nature and get her to make me one? No. That’s evil. Or is it???

Return of the mac

Yes yes yes! I got my new Percival mac yesterday, it’s so very beautiful. I have a very talented boyfriend, I feel ever so smug when I put it on, thinking of how his little Mexican hands and brain made it.

The wax itself feels amazing, it’s all oily and soft. I wore it on the scooter this morning in the pouring rain, it kept me so very dry and lovely. Alas, the same couldn’t be said of my jeans and shoes. Got so utterly soaked.

The lining I’ve got on my mac is slightly different to the one in the pic, but I prefer it, it’s a smaller check on a white background. Less gingham/plaid, more checked. I’m sure there’s an official fashion word for it, but I certainly don’t know it.

I think the retail site for Percival goes live this week, everyone should go and buy something. Please.
