Big Yellow Tutu

2010 is going to be brilliant January 9, 2010

As always, I’m starting the new year with an intention to blog more. I might try and post every day, but it seems unlikely. I also want to get back to the good ole days when this used to be more of a diary. Can’t believe Big Yellow Tutu has now been going for five years, starting in November 2004!!!

Christmas has been & gone, I now own more kitchenalia. Including a thing for slicing julienne carrots. Erm. It was a fairly standard Christmas, I got drunk with friends on xmas eve and called a pub bouncer a c**t. Nice. We did a few nice family things, a trip to see Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake and a day trip to Lille. The ballet was amazing, I really didn’t expect the male dancers to be that muscley!!!! Lille was beautiful, but fucking freezing and my mother was a misery the entire day. That woman is bloody hard to please. She complained that the train station car park hadn’t been planted up!!!!

I was very glad to get back to London, especially after a week without the little Baigues. New Year was awesome, we went to the Barfly and Monarch for dancing and sweating. Didn’t get to bed until 9am! I’m not an old lady after all! I think I shocked myself with that. Though I did nap for an hour at about 5 in the morning, but still…

It’s been a culture packed few weeks too. In summary:

Ed Ruscha Exhibition: mostly good, big words, some awful stuff that looked like it could be sold as posters in bong shops

Twilight New Moon: terrible, of course but Jacob looks hot. They cut out all the interesting bits, and Bella is still a knob.

The Box: Same director as Donnie Darko, it’s great but spooky. I’d have kept the kid blind & deaf.

Sherlock Holmes: ridiculous. Robert Downey Jr is buff.

Up: amazing, but so upsetting. I cried for hours afterwards.

Paranormal Activity: Fucked up. Baigues didn’t sleep at all that evening. I don’t mean that in a sexy way either, he’s just a complete nancy.

The Road: Incredible, but the most harrowing thing I’ve ever seen.

A Single Man: Tom Ford’s directorial debut. It’s beautiful, the outfits are wonderful. Gutted that Colin Firth didn’t get it on with Nicholas Hoult though.

Nine: The worst film I’ve seen in a very long time.

Kim Noble’s stand up show: more jizz than I think I’ve ever seen. Ewww…

That’s about it, I think. Off to do a Jack The Ripper pub crawl in a bit, going to wear every piece of clothing I own. It’s still snowing. Ugh.

Happy New Everyone.

A week or so ago lil Luke & I had the day off together, an entire Friday to potter about town and feel stupidly xmassy. Such bliss.

We hit up the Anish Kapoor exhibition at the Royal Academy for a bit of waxy, mulitcoloured fun. Per square footage, the exhibition is a bit of a rip off. But per ounce of fun it’s amazing. They’ve really destroyed the exhibition space, wax everywhere. It looks incredible, it’s such a beautiful old tradition building and they’ve splattered the hell out of it. The big wax train that shuffles up and down through the arches has covered every wall in waxy gunk. I want one of those big guns that fires wax too, amazingly good fun. Splat! Splat! Splat! The big mirrors are kinda cute for about two seconds, the big clay poos just remind me of the pottery classes my mum forced me into, the big lady bits is rude and the giant piles of powder paint are chronically dull. Just go for the wax. See if you can touch it, there are security guards everywhere. The meanies.

New year? New job? We need a Junior Social Media Planner.. December 14, 2009

Sooo… here at Dare we’re after a Junior Social Media Planner to join our lovely social media team. We’re part of the planning department but that doesn’t mean you’ll be writing endless powerpoint presentations, just thinking and not doing. The role is a lovely mix of concepting, strategy, techie thoughts, community & profile management and blogger outreach. You’d be working on the long term social media strategies for our clients, as well as the big campaigns we produce here.

Last week, Daniel (our other Junior Social Media Planner) spent a day like this:

New Look: inviting bloggers to the SS10 press launch in London; inviting bloggers to a day trip to Paris to see the new collection; coordinating the content plan across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the blog; sending out SS10 look books to bloggers; planning the campaign ideas around the flagship store launch.

Barclaycard: updating their music Twitter feed; planning ideas around the new tv advert (the big digital campaign itself and what we’ll do on all the Barclaycard profiles); looking at ways to measure it all; working with the tech and the IA department on how the new campaign pages will integrate social media; updating the Barclaycard Facebook page.

Of course I’m going to say it, but Dare is a brilliant place to work. There are about 180 of us, we’re just off Oxford St and we get free breakfast. We just won Digital Agency Of The Decade and we do work like this. We have a knitting club.

We’re after someone who knows the platforms inside out, knows what makes a good social media campaign and most importantly understands how social media can benefit a brand. You don’t need years of experience, but someone from a social media, PR or techie background would be brilliant.

Email the lovely lucy.hodge@daredigital.com with your cv if you’re interested or if you’d just like to know more. I have actually written a proper job description, as well as this endless waffle. Lucy can send this over.

Thanks

xx

Rick is incredibly camp. Something I tried to ignore when we dated. He has been on tour with Michael McIntyre for the past few months, getting porky and doing some porking. Here he is, mincing about backstage. According to Rick, this video has been so popular he now has his own groupies who hang out at the stage door waiting for him. Er… right. Though, going through the comments it seems he might be telling the truth. Weird.

Oh santa please, I’ve been so very, very good this year…

This is from the Giles Deacon SS10 collection, most of which is utter chavvy rubbish but this little lovely is just perfect. The big skirt, the ruffles, the colour, the sci fi corset; if it could make martinis I think I’d marry it.

The cutest thing in the world. The Mary River Turtle. That’s algae on his head. Love it. He’s endangered, the poor lad. A dam might be built that would flood the waters he paddles in. Noooo!

Falmouth Fun October 30, 2009

This blog used to be more of a diary. I keep meaning to head back in that direction, but I get easily distracted by posting about the shiny things that I want to buy.

So… last weekend a bunch of us went down to Falmouth for the Ale Festival. Suuucccchhh fun! Four days of solid boozing. I’m suffering now though with a massive cold. Snot everywhere. I’m not naming names, but some people managed to achieve the following different things: getting punched by a dog, passing out and pissing themselves on the street, puking on the dancefloor, forward rolls on the dance floor, drinking nine beers before even hitting the pub at 5pm,  being the only person to take my lives on Killer Darts…

Falmouth is lovely, I was so jealous of the boys for going to uni there. London Met just isn’t as pretty. Lunch by the harbour or lunch on Whitechapel High St? Mmm… tough call.
